Default Sue #2 From Loyalty Ink

Another shot of Sue at Loyalty Ink, used SL800 for this and PS to put in a back in red.. Hope to do a studio shoot on location soon for better quality.

She's got a pretty good expression going but the lightings a bit harsh. Especially in the hair and on her cheek. What sort of light modifier are you using on your SB800?

If you aren't using it try the bounce cap that came with it. Position the flash head at a 45 deg angle and that'll diffuse the light fairly well. You might want to dial the power back a stop or two on close shots like this as well. If you haven't tried it I seriously like the Gary Fong Lightsphere anmd now he is making a Universal that'll fit my 500EX, 420EX and SB80DX for my Coolpix 5000.

All in all I'd say she shows some potential and you should both be able to learn from each other!

Ok, I used the white diffuser at 45% but the camera was on P mode because of the location shot. Yes the other diffuser may have worked better but I don't have one yet. This was a commercial shoot and I hope to do the studio shoot there this week and have some great shots with the Hensel Lights in manual mode..
Thanks for the feedback it all helps I know I will get to the point of all manual shots, they just take longer to setup and I cant always do that at a commercial shoot.

No I understand that and the temptation to do it. (Hell I shoot more than half my shots at a reception on "P". But after a while you get to where you know that someone at X distance will expose well at Y f-stop and Z shutter speed at G flash power.

Damn I sound like an Algebra Teacher.....

Yes that is true, and the P mode is tempting as well as safe when shooting on the fly. Rather I go back with good shots for the client then try to get studio quality on the fly and miss or destroy a shot. Soon that will be the only reason I use P mode just for safe shot, afterwords if conditions allow I now have the opportunity to re shoot it manually and get a studio quality shoot.. just my way to go with the flow.
There was an old wedding photog that told me about that trick, "never miss a shot
you can always shoot it again better".... he has retired to Florida with his second wife, he said she is the good shot.
