Post What is your favorite lens for portfolio work?

When I am shooting people, there is no substitute for my Canon 85mm F/1.2 L lens.

What is your favorite?

When I had it it'd have been the 28-70 f2.8L, dumbest thing I ever did was sell that lens. That said I use a 50mm f1.8 a lot (1.6 crop factor on my 20D) and I do like my 28-75 f2.8 Tamron.

I like the Nikon 18/200 w/VR has a great wide and 200mm to get a great close-up when needed, and with the VR it is a little more relieable in low light or low speed shots.

IT depends....

The best lens in the aresenal for me is the 85mm f/1.4. (Nikon Shooter) However, in certain cases its a bit limited in terms of flexibility. For flexibility, I go to the 28-70mm f/2.8 AFS. The zoom gives me the flexibility to play more with composition in shoots.

Both are stellar lenses but for the ultimate in detail the 85mm gets the nod as the favorite.

Another that is heavily used is the 70-200 f/2.8 AFS VR. This gives me the tight shots. Great lens.

Default "Best lens"??

I have a number of lenses which are excellent for specific studio use... the best I would choose are the Nikon 85mm f1.4 and the Nikon 105mm f4 Micro.

However, for general use by far I like my Tamron 28mm-105mm f2.8 on my Nikon D3, or my Tamron 28mm-75mm f2.8 on my Fujifilm S5. Both of those cover the range that I use 95%+ of the time, and they are SHARP! I use those combinations in the studio as well as on location.
