For your first attempt, I don't see anything that is seriously wrong. Different photographers would turn the head slightly toward you or not at all, have her looking at you or not at all, smiling or not, hey its your shot, you shoot how you percieve the end result looking.

Looks fine to me..

IMO, a few things:

1. Are you using an on-camera flash? :eek:
2. Keep your horizon level.
3. Hand position is very important. Your model is showing the back of her hands directly to the camera. This makes her hands look older, making the model look older.
4. Crop! There is too much dead space above the model, and she is smack in the center of the shot. Read up on the rule of thirds. It may help with the composition. I hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty of re-cropping your image (attached), just to show you what I mean.

By all means, I do not want to rip your work apart. Just trying to give you a few pointers for future shots.
